FYHA Club Hockey

Club hockey with Flagstaff Youth Hockey Association (FYHA) is a fun, inclusive way for kids to learn the game of hockey, build confidence, and be part of a team. Designed for players of all skill levels, our Flagstaff Northstars club teams focus on skill development, teamwork, and a love for the sport—all in a supportive, community-driven environment. Whether your child is lacing up skates for the first time or looking to grow on the ice, there’s a place for them here.

6U/8U Club Hockey

Our 6U and 8U Club Hockey programs are designed for young players (birth years 2017–2020) who are developing their foundational hockey skills. These teams focus on fun, teamwork, and skill-building through USA Hockey’s American Development Model. Practices are held twice per week with local cross-ice games and in-house scrimmages to build confidence and game sense in a supportive environment.

  • 6U (Mini Mites) focuses on learning hockey fundamentals: skating drills at this level include basic forward skating, stopping, turning, and balance exercises like 'marching' and 'gliding on one foot’.
  • 8U (Mites) introduces more structured play. Skating drills progress to crossovers, backward skating, edge control, and quick starts/stops to improve agility on the ice.

  • Games Saturdays, 10-11:15 AM

10U/12U/14U Club

Club hockey at the 10U, 12U, and 14U levels (birth years 2011–2016) offers players the opportunity to continue building their skills and game understanding without the travel demands of a full travel program. Practices are held twice per week and focus on skating, puck handling, teamwork, and game strategy. This is a great option for multi-sport athletes or families seeking a lower-commitment season.

For the 2025–2026 season, FYHA is adopting a "Navy" and "White" team format for our 10U/12U/14U Club program to help better support player development across all levels.

Instead of organizing club teams strictly by age, players will be placed based on skill level through a skills evaluation process. This change is designed to create more balanced teams, ensure appropriate development opportunities, and allow players to grow at a pace that’s right for them.

Evaluations will be held Monday, 9/15 and Thursday, 9/18 from 4:30-5:30 PM. Players should plan to be at both practices that week. Players will be notified of team placements by Friday, 9/19.
